Walkthrough the history of the old fishing village and the Ria Formosa.
Bordered by the Ria Formosa estuary, Olhão is both a fishing port and a coastal paradise of beaches and lagoons.
Olhão is located in the heart of Ria Formosa Reserve. Known as a fishermen’s town, with its houses with roof terraces and minarets it is a patchwork of white cubes and original chimneys which earned the epithet of the “cubist” city.
By doing this tour with me, you will be guided by the history and mythic stories of Olhão. We will walk through the alleys and the labyrinth of lanes and little streets discovering interesting corners.
We will walk to the center of the town to visit the Church of Nossa Senhora do Rosário in which there are gilded altars and fresco paintings adorning the ceiling. At the back of the church, you will find a small, yet charming chapel filled with blue and white tiles
At the end of the tour, we will visit the iconic, 2-parts city market where you will meet the typical fruits, vegetables and fish of Algarve. You will also have the possibility of purchasing. (Your purchase is not included in the tour price.)
